What Do Traumas Do?

Negative emotions and beliefs sometimes are based on trauma “snapshots.” Persons become “frozen” in certain emotional states when a trauma happens. One person I have treated was afraid of going out and had panic attacks after witnessing the murder of her husband. Previously, she was a successful business woman. After the trauma, she became emotionally paralyzed and could not work any longer. With proper therapeutic intervention she quickly resolved her trauma by releasing the stuck emotional state she was in. She soon became a productive member of society and has since started her own business.

Belief systems are altered when a trauma occurs. It can cause a person to conclude that they are “bad” or “guilty.” Their perception of the world and others can become warped. For example, I have treated many individuals who have experienced love betrayal trauma and therefore cannot trust the opposite sex any more. One such person was a young woman who shared that she had given her virginity to a man who promised to marry her. Shortly after this, he left her for another woman. The young woman was very angry towards all men, to say the least. Her face showed coldness and hardness. After one session, this person experienced total release from her trauma, her anger, and her limiting belief about all men. In her heart she released the man who hurt her and went on to find the love of her life and married him. She informed me that she was extremely happy.

Traumas also can contribute to other existing traumas. When this accumulation of traumas happens there is a downward spiraling that feels like it came from “nowhere.” If this is ignored the result can be an emotional breakdown. At that point, even the body could experience a physical breakdown.

If you identify with any of these scenarios, you owe it to yourself to seek effective treatment. You should use professionals that use methods capable of neutralizing the incapacitating underlying causes of traumas.
